Parco e Funtana de Is Arinus
The waterfalls of Funtana de Is Arinus are located in an area covered with woods of oaks, cork oaks and holm oaks, in the lush territory of Nurallao. The Rio Sarcidano...
It is a beautiful rock wall, 20 meters tall, situated 300 m above sea level in the Flumendosa Valley, in the middle of a holm oak forest. To reach it, you need to drive along a dirt road and, after parking your car, walk about 1 km downhill on a hiking trail surrounded by Mediterranean scrub. At the bottom of this forest you will find the Flumendosa River.
The name Sa Stiddiosa comes from the Sardinian word "stiddius", which literally means "dripping". When you reach it, you will understand the reason for this peculiar name. Above the rock wall there is a small stream that flows down and reaches the plants covering the wall, creating a magical rain. The falling water, the green plants and the calcareous concretions make this unusual waterfall a fairy-tale and charming place for nature lovers. The falling water creates a small natural pool with an amazing emerald-green color, where you can swim and relax while watching this breathtaking natural masterpiece.
The ticket area (open from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM) can be reached by car and found on Google by typing "Centro visite per Sa Stiddiosa."
Ticket costs:
- 0,00€ for ages 0 to 6 (no reservation required in this case)
5,00€ for ages 7 to 12
7,00€ for ages 13 and up
Subsequently, one must drive 2.2 km on a dirt road to the trailhead, where parking is available.
The trail, fully marked and secured, is 2 km down and 2 km back up from the same point, with an elevation change of 350 meters.
The route is divided into two steps: the first, relatively easy, 1.1 km long, starts from the location of "Perda Pertunta" (near the parking area) and goes to "Perda Longa," where the second, decidedly more challenging and picturesque, 800 meters long, leads directly to Sa Stiddiosa. Average time to complete: 40 minutes.
The difficulty level of the trail is EE (experienced hikers), medium difficulty due to the elevation, terrain (presence of leaves, stones, and rocks), the presence of some equipped sections (ropes facilitate descent and ascent), and the absence of sources of drinking water.
The trail is not recommended for those with health issues.
