Fonte Nuragica di Monte Nuxi

Storia

Description

Fonte Nuragica di Monte Nuxi belongs to the nuragic complex of Monti ‘e Nuxi, near Esterzili, a highland site linked to the cult of water. Archaeological investigations have identified a village that originated in the Bronze Age and developed as a sanctuary between the twelfth and eighth centuries BC, with huts, sacred springs and a megalithic wall. The monumental spring has an architraved entrance and a short stairway leading to the water chamber, where the spring is still present: an essential element for understanding the ritual dimension of the place. In the upper sector there is also a meeting hall, with a paved circular chamber, perimeter seat, niches and a base interpreted as a ritual table. The complex shows how water, community gathering and monumental masonry were integrated into a single sacred system. Its position on Monte Santa Vittoria adds strong landscape value, but the central evidence remains archaeological: an articulated and functional nuragic sanctuary.
