Description
Nuraghe Santu Millanu dominates a rise in the territory of Nuragus, between Sarcidano and Marmilla, in an area frequented from the Bronze Age to the Roman period. The structure is a quadrilobate limestone nuraghe, with a central keep preserved to about six meters and a bastion with four circular towers at the corners, today partly legible on the ground. The main chamber has niches arranged in a cross pattern and holes interpreted as beam sockets, perhaps linked to a wooden mezzanine; an internal staircase must have connected secondary rooms and upper levels. Around it emerge traces of the Nuragic village, later affected by Roman overlays belonging to the settlement of Valenza, along the road between Karalis and Ulbia. The name derives from the nearby church of San Gemiliano, now almost entirely disappeared. The site is connected with the sacred well of Coni and with other monuments in the area, offering a layered reading of the ancient landscape.
