Grotta del Fico

Grotta del Fico opens in the limestone walls of the Gulf of Orosei, along the coast of Baunei, between vertical sea cliffs and the Supramonte. The first chambers formed in remote geological times, and today the equipped route makes it possible to follow the fossil bed of an ancient river, among walkways, galleries, stalactites, stalagmites and columns of different colors. The entrance, set in the cliff and reached mainly by sea, already offers a reading of the relationship between cavity and marine landscape. The cave was explored in the 20th century and opened to the public in 2003; it is also known for its link with the monk seal, studied in this sector of the eastern coast. The guided visit maintains a naturalistic and speleological character, in an environment that combines accessibility with an authentic perception of living rock.
