Description

Grotte del Bue Marino is a system of sea caves in the Gulf of Orosei, in the territory of Dorgali, historically linked to the presence of the monk seal, locally called bue marino. The caves are part of the great karst system of the Codula di Luna and develop in several branches: the southern one is equipped for visits, with illuminated walkways crossing galleries, freshwater lakes, spaces invaded by the sea and limestone concretions. The entrance, opening through arches sheer above the water, leads into an underground landscape where light, shadow and brackish reflections continually change the perception of the spaces. In addition to its geological value, the site preserves Neolithic rock engravings, evidence of ancient use that adds cultural depth to one of the best-known places on Sardinia's eastern coast.
