MAN Museo d'Arte della Provincia di Nuoro

MAN is a permanent public institution dedicated to the study, conservation, and promotion of modern and contemporary art. It opened to the public in 1999 inside a 1920s building, formerly the seat of the provincial institution, and until 2003 it was part of the culture sector as an office. The first core of the collection was formed by merging several public collections (Province, Municipality, Provincial Tourism Board, Chamber of Commerce); however, it soon developed into an updated museum project in which research and conservation work was accompanied by intense exhibition and workshop activity. In 2004 the museum was structured as an institution without legal personality and joined AMACI, the National Association of Contemporary Art Museums, while in 2013 MAN received regional recognition as a museum of excellence.
In addition to temporary exhibitions, MAN presents shows dedicated to artists and movements in art history from the nineteenth to the twenty-first century, as well as experimental projects focused on the languages of the most immediate contemporary scene. At the same time, it carries out activities outside the museum's architectural spaces, as a form of outreach to the territory and active involvement of local communities.
